Our Conversation with the Easyship Team at CES 2025

The Funding Insider Team had the pleasure of meeting with the Easyship team at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas earlier this year.

Easyship is a global shipping service that is a popular choice among e-commerce websites and crowdfunding campaigns shipping their rewards around the world.

In our interview with the Easyship team, we were able to gleam meaningful insights on what can go wrong in the shipping process, what issues to look out for when transitioning into e-commerce, plus an inside look at the newly unveiled Easyship Collect service for crowdfunding.

What Kickstarter Creators Get Wrong

“It’s very easy for a campaign to go really well and then fall apart when the physical product needs to get to the consumers. And that means negative reviews on platforms like Kickstarter, Indiegogo… and once you get 1 negative review, things can go viral very quickly. Backers complain, they want their money back…

“Even if you take the other side of things and think, okay, I’ve got 10 thousand backers and everything’s out for delivery, everything’s going smoothly… If you don’t use the right delivery services and you don’t keep your customers up to date, then you’re going to get 10 thousand backers emailing you saying ‘Hey, where is my product? Can you be trusted? Is it even real?’ So, it’s really gaining the trust of your backers so that everything goes smoothly for you and it’s as simple as possible. Also, getting loyalty from backers … So, when you launch your next campaign, everyone’s like, ‘Hey these guys are wonderful, I got my product as promised, it arrived on time, well packaged, local courier.’

“So yeah, we do that, and we all do it through a cool platform which is accessible through a browser.”

Transitioning to E-commerce

“What we’re also looking to do is always help crowdfunding campaigns transition into e-commerce. So, we have some fantastic integrations with Shopify, Bigcommerce, Squarespace, Magento; all of these guys, where we can help you offer rates at checkout at basket, managing your new website, driving repeat purchase… And also where is my order—we call it WISMO in the industry—that issue that you have once you venture into e-commerce, if you have orders every day… If you’re not taking care of that properly, you have to have a whole customer care team dedicated to just answering chats saying ‘Hey, my parcel should have come today. It’s not here today. Where is it?’ With our proactive communication, we keep customers informed of their delivery throughout the life of the parcel being transported to them, and ultimately that leads to less inquiries into the merchant.

Unveiling “Easyship Collect”

“A new product that we’ve launched specifically for the crowdfunding market is a product called Easyship Collect. So, all the problems that I said we help alleviate on the shipping side of things… It still means you can have a shipping bill for 500K. It’s a huge bill to pay at the end of the day. There's a lot of financial risk involved and also the stress of collecting all that money and having a huge invoice to pay DHM or UPS.

“So what Easyship Collect allows you to do is, once the campaign is closed and you have your complete backer list, we will reach out to the backers and essentially offer them their delivery options so they can decide which service they would like to deliver the parcel, and they pay us directly so we don’t have to give you a big bill. We don’t have to ask for any money up front. Backers pay us directly. It’s a lot easier for you to manage that way. And also, Kickstarter, Indiegogo, these guys rest assured that shipping is taken care of properly and they don’t have to hold any funds back either because we’re taking care of everything.

“So that’s super cool, and it also gives the backers more choice, right? They can decide ‘I want Fedex, not UPS. I want to pay my taxes today, not when it arrives.’”
